Blog Ahead Challenge Recap

The Blog Ahead Challenge, which is a bloggery version of NaNoWriMo. It's hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup. It runs from November 1-30th, 2014 and the basic goal is to get "ahead" in your blog posts. Hopefully at the end of the month of November you will have 30 additional pre-schedules than when you started the month. Posts for this challenge are scheduled after Decemeber 1, 2014.

My goal for this challenge was 15 pre-scheduled posts.

So far, I have completed

  • 3 pre-scheduled Book Blogger Hop posts
  • 1 pre-scheduled Book Blog Reading Challenge (SQUEE! I'm super excited about this post scheduled for Jan 1 because I am hosting my own book blog reading challenge)
  • template for a monthly progress link up for the Book Blog Reading Challenge (so that counts for 11 posts, right? lol)
  • 2 pre-scheduled review for a blog tour
  • 4 pre-scheduled posts for the Top Ten of 2014 Challenge
That's a total of 21 posts!

I'd call this challenge a success! Thanks to Anna at Herding Cats and Burning Soup for hosting this challenge and providing some much needed support while I worked through a blogging slump. Congrats to everyone who participated!

Book Blogger Hop #10 (week of November 28)

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Its purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new blogs, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Each week bloggers answer a different question. This week's question is: Do you visit the same blogs each week or do you branch out and try to find new blogs?

I have a handful of favorites that I visit every week, if I have time, I check out new blogs.

Top 10 of 2014

This week long event is hosted by Two Chicks on BooksRachel from FiktshunMindy from Magical Urban Fantasy Reads,  Rachel from Reading YA Rocks and Nancy fromTales of a Ravenous Reader!

The event is simple. Follow the dates and list topics as provided and fill out the linky on one of the co-hosts' sites. This gives us an idea who will be joining us for the Top 10 week. THEN, be sure to come back to one of our blogs on each of the five days and link up your post for that specific day! Just remember, each day will have a linky for THAT Top 10 topic - they are also hosting a giveaway!
Monday, December 22nd – Best Books I’ve Read in 2014 (Doesn’t have to be released in 2014, just a book you’ve read in 2014)

Tuesday, December 23rd – Best Book Covers of 2014 (MUST be a book released in 2014. Would be best if it’s a book you’ve READ in 2014, but it’s not required)

Wednesday, December 24th – Best ________ Of 2014 (Readers/Bloggers choice. Please fill in the blank with ONE of these topics – Villains, Contemporaries, Dual POV’s, Novellas, Adult titles, New Adult titles, Love Triangles, Couples, Bad Boys or Debuts. REMEMBER – this list MUST be from books you’ve READ in 2014)

Thursday, December 25th – Best Book Boyfriends of 2014 (MUST be from a book released in 2014 and from a book you’ve READ in 2014)

Friday, December 26th – Top 10 Books I’m looking forward to in 2015. (This list should be comprised of books released ONLY in 2015)

As the end of 2014 (and my first year of blogging) comes to a close, I thought that this event would be really fun!

The Broke and Bookish Secret Santa!

I am super excited to be participating in this year's Broke and Bookish Secret Santa!

The swap is supposed to be low key, but fun. Each package should look something like this: 1 or 2 books plus some sort of little goodie or two (candy, bookmarks, something bookish) & a card or note.

This year there is also a hashtag to keep things fun: #TBTBSanta

I received the person that I am buying for today and I am really excited to shop for her!

Top Ten Tuesday #16 (11/11/2014)

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at The Broke and Bookish, and this weeks Top Ten is Top Ten Characters I Wish Had Their Own Book

Borrowed Ember (Fire Spirits, #3)
Jai from the Fire Spirits Series by Samantha Young because he is dreamy and I would swoon (and most likely faint) reading his perspective.

Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3)
Rowan from Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas because he is clearly a well developed character with some seriously interesting history that I would love to learn and I wouldn't mind swooning over him some more.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1)
Hector from The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson because he is complex and I am pretty sure that his view of Elisa would be interesting to read.

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)
IKO from Cinder by Marissa Meyer because she is hilarious and probably gets into all sorts of shenanigans.
The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)
Haymitch from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. 1) I want to read about his turn in the games and 2) I want to read The Hunger Games from his perspective.

Stacking the Shelves #21 (11/8/2014)

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. Challenge Updates

My goal for this challenge is 15 pre-scheduled posts.

So far, I have completed

The Goodreads 2014 Reading Challenge is hosted by Goodreads. This year I set my goal at 65 books since graduate school has gotten pretty intense. But I am happy to say that I have completed this challenge and I have already started to surpass the goal.

The 2014 Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge is hosted by Falling for YA and will (hopefully) give you the incentive to tackle your review books, stumble upon new ones, and get your Netgalley percentage to the desired 80%!

My Goal is Silver (25 books)

Currently, my Netgalley percentage is 88.9%! YAHOO! I have met my goal of having the desired 80%.

However, my book count is not looking to good, I am about halfway there in terms of my goal. Here is a list of what I have tackled so far (links go to my reviews - not in any particular order).

  1. The Here and Now by Ann Brashares
  2. Dangerous Dream by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
  3. Running on Empty by Colette Ballard
  4. Stolen Songbird by Danielle Jensen
  5. The Shadow Throne by Jennifer Neilsen
  6. Endless by Amanda Gray
  7. Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaria
  8. The Unintentional Virgin by AJ Bennett
  9. Me Since You by Laura Weiss
  10. Talented by Sophie Davis
  11. Don't Even Think About It by Sarah Mlynowski
  12. External Forces by Deborah Rix
  13. Sun and Moon by Elizabeth Paradise
  14. The Opposite of Maybe by Maddie Dawson
  15. The Fever by Megan Abbott
  16. Branded by Abi Ketner & Missy Kalicicki

Book Blogger Hop #9 (week of November 7)

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Its purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new blogs, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Each week bloggers answer a different question. This week's question is: Should book bloggers be doing more to support bookshops rather than just give links to Amazon or B&N as a place to buy the printed version of books they read?

I've never thought about it. It would be great to share links to local book shops, but I'm not sure how it would work since people from all over the country (and sometimes the world) follow our blogs.

What do you think?
